In her teenage years she was challenged and fell in love with rock climbing. Cliffs would call to her as places to play. She found the vertical world a free space to solve problems and push her to discover her own limits and strengths. She defined her artistic style in college and then refined it while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa, teaching art to Deaf students. There she was challenged by explaining art in sign language. It was this language she learned that taught her the next step with her art, how to clearly speak without words. Now her art work is a representation of her thoughts without words, of her travels up cliff faces, inward travels of the heart, mind and body, and travels to faraway places.
